Rashkin in his own words:

There are plays, which can be read as the story, and there are plays, which to read unpleasantly, but which in performance of actors have a success. Before to a play Susanna I have written few plays designed for actor’s skill. But once I wanted to write a play, pleasant for reading. So Susanna has appeared. I worked with it less than two months. I write books long, during a few years, and I write plays quickly. A play William Shakespeare A Gentleman is sole one with which I worked six months.

To time of a writing of the play Susanna I finally had unfriendly relations with the Russian writers, publishing houses and theatres, therefore I took an aim on the English-language theatres. By the way, in the Susanna Russia and Moscow is not described. In the text there are no these words. This play about love, about unexpected turns of destiny…

So it turned out that one of the London theatres, in which I sent the Susanna, had answered me, that a translation of the play on English is bad, poor-quality. Therefore I have sent the play to Lennie Varvarides and did not send anybody. Her email I have found in ‘UK Opportunities – The Playwrights’ Noticeboard – Markets & Marketing – The Playwrights’ Forum’.

Further a fun story in spirit of the Susanna has happened. I have a silly habit frequently to change my email. Just in that time I have broken my old email and has created a new email, from which has sent the Susanna to Lennie Varvarides. In a week I lost a sheet with this email address and the password. It is not a trouble. I have created a new email.

And November 2008 came. In November I began to send from my new email a play William Shakespeare A Gentleman to English and American theatres. I have sent it to Lennie Varvarides too. Lennie’s answer was amusing: ‘We are putting on your play this Monday, I have been trying to get in contact for a long time. How are you? Is this your new email address?’

It was unreal happy-end, similar on happy-end in the play Susanna.
