Outreach Projects
Most of our funds to producing new theatre are generated through our Outreach Projects, as well as our Drama Supply Practitioners. We offer the following:
- Early Writers: Writing projects for Primary Schools. MSFT will create an 8 week creative writing project for storytelling, poetry or playwriting, depending on the requirements of the school and/or the teacher. The eighth week is a presentation of the work created.
- Introduction to Writing for Performance: Writing Projects for 11-13 year olds. MSFT will devise a 4, 6, or 10 week writing project specializing in writing for performance. Styles include; Monologues, Sketches, and/or Playwriting, with a presentation on the last week.
- Playwriting Techniques: Writing Projects for 14-16 year olds. MSFT will generate an 8, 10, or 12 week script writing project with a performance on the last week. Playwriting Techniques will support students to write a 30 minute play and will offer the opportunity to workshop their scripts with professional actors.
- Total Theatre: Producing and Directing Projects for 16-18 year olds. MSFT will work with drama students to form individual mini theatre company’s consisting of a writers, director and producer, who will intern to cast actors for their new play. The play ideally will be created through the Playwriting Techniques project so as to use the full 12 weeks to rehearse and block the play ready for a weekend run.
Student Benefits
Because msft is all about nurturing creativity we are keen to start nurturing early, as such we offer the following opportunities. Every student involved in a msft project:
- Automatically graduates onto either our work experience (13-15 year olds) or the internship programs (16 plus). Duration may last from two–six weeks
- Young writers may submit their finished play to any of msft’s new writing festivals
- Young actors may audition for any of our professional productions and if successful may be offered representation
- All young actors will be offered one free acting, singing and dancing class via our partner, MAD About Talent weekend performing arts school
Drama Supply Practitioners
msft works with professional actors and theatre practitioners to supply short term cover at short notice, to primary and secondary schools in North London. We are able to create one off lesson plans lasting from one hour to one day, or to develop and work towards longer projects as required. We use drama and theatre skills to cover any academic lesson, PSHE and citizen topic, or after school club.
